캐나다한인교향악단은 한인사회의 젊은 음악도들과 음악 전공 지망생들의 주간 리허설 그룹으로 시작되었습니다. 초대 감독 김성순선생님에 이어 창단 단원이었던 리처드 리 (이일철) 가 1997년에 바톤을 이어 받았습니다. 여러 재능 있는 캐나다 한인 음악가들이 이 단체를 거쳐갔고, 신인들의 발돋움 무대로, 국제적인 한국계 예술가들의 초대 무대였으며, 탈출한 북한 피아니스트 및 다양한 전통 한국 음악가들을 캐나다에 소개할 수 있었습니다. 재능 많은 신인 음악인 중 바이올린주자이자 지휘자인 이샤론이 2016년부터 음악 감독을 맡았습니다. 공공 자금과 공연 예술에 대한 관심이 점차 감소함에 따라 수년에 걸쳐 규모를 축소하되 활동을 강화했습니다.문화 예술, 특히 라이브 음악은 어느때보다 중요하기에 캐나다한인교향악단은 이민후 활동을 하실 수 없었던 음악인들, 숨은 음악인들과 현지의 한인음악인들이 협력하고 캐나다 주류 음악계와도 교류,네트워킹하며 공연제작, 우리 사회를 위하고 알리는 예술활동을 하는 단체로 발전하고 있습니다.

Allow me to introduce you to the Korean Canadian Symphony Orchestra ‘KCSO’ and Chamber Concerts ‘KCCC’.KCSO was started in 1987 as a weekly rehearsing group of aspiring music students, with the nurturing of our music-lovingcommunity and close mentorship of many professional musicians of Toronto. Founding artistic director Mr. SungSoon Kimled this talented and vibrant group, then founding musician member Richard Lee resumed the leadership role in 1997,himself one of many internationally successful musicians we proudly count as our alumni. KCSO served as a launching stage for many gifted Korean Canadian musicians, hosted numerous internationally renownedKorean artists, had occasion to collaborate with an escaped North Korean pianist, and also with various traditional Koreanmusicians. As a Toronto-based community organisation, we regularly highlight our up-and-coming talents. One of them,violinist and conductor Sharon Lee, has been the music director since 2016. All this was possible with the support of our dedicated board and community-minded leaders who understand the impact ofthe Arts in the community. But with the gradual decline in public funding and interest in the performance arts, KCSO hasdownsized and tightened the belt over the years. We still audaciously claim that music is important, its many forms havehistorically been a profound part of humanity’s psyche, comforting and rallying in many a dire times. KCSO will continue tohelp in networking and unearthing our new Canadian or hidden musicians, be a haven of networking, program, collaborationand producing of live performances, community outreach and education opportunities for musicians and music lovers ofToronto.Producing symphonic performances was a labour of pure love, and KCSO’s 37-year history is a testament to our littlecommunity's high regard and love for culture. Korean Canadian Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Concerts carry on withthe spirit with our mission, 'Music in Our Lives'.
