한국의 혼 / Spirit of Korea
지난 26년간 토론토 한인 혼성 합창단의 명맥을 이어가며 클래식의 명가라고 불리고 있는 예멜합창단이 오는 6월 1일 7시 Markham People’s Community Church (22 Esna Park Dr, Markham, ON L3R 1E1)에서 ‘Spirit of Korea’ 봄 공연을 선보입니다. 이번 공연은 우리나라 음악의 아름다움과 한국 문화를 공유하기 위해 기획된 공연으로, 특별히 한국 예술 문화를 캐나다 사회에 전파하고 토론토에 거주하는 동포분들께 큰 울림이 되기를 바라며 준비하였습니다.
이번 공연에는 한국 전통 악기, 그리고 판소리와 함께 하는 다양한 합창곡들도 포함되어 한국 예술 문화의 색다른 특징을 표현합니다. 1부에서는 한국 가곡, 민요들로 채워지고, 2부에서는 토속적인 우리 민요와 가락을 모트브로 표현된 오병희 작곡, 탁계석 대본의 창작 칸타타 ‘조국의 혼’의 한 악장인 ‘한’과 무반주로 편곡된 아리랑등 다양한 레파토어가 준비되어있습니다.

The Yemel Philharmonic Society presents ‘Spirit of Korea’ on Saturday, June 1 at 7 p.m. at the Markham People’s Community Church.
The program has been curated to share the beauty of Korean music and the spirit of Korean culture. The performance will showcase a variety of choral repertoire with traditional Korean instruments and pansori, a Korean genre of musical storytelling performed by a singer and a drummer portraying many of the special characteristics of Korean musical culture and styles. The first half of the program is filled with beautiful Korean art and folk songs. The second half includes ‘Han’ a movement from the original cantata, ‘Spirit of Korea’ composed by Byung-Hee Oh, and libretto by Gye-Seok Tak, and an a cappella arrangement of a much-loved folk song and unofficial national anthem of Korea, Arirang.
Yemel hopes to share the unique and special experience and resonate with audiences in Toronto.
